People Peeving is In
I’m so excited about this month’s Kickass Flair Club design!
One of my goals for 2026 is to improve my hand lettering skills and the monthly flair club designs are a great place to practice that.
Sometimes I recycle common phrases (as long as they’re not copyrighted) because if you’re seeing the same thing over and over again, it’s popular for a reason—people like it, it’s relatable, so it’s probably a safe bet.
But I’m a writer so I also love coming up with my own unique never-before-seen expressions, and that’s what we have this month. (I’m especially proud of the “peeving” part lol)
Our stupid nation is in turmoil and I’ve been so inspired by all the clever protest signs, I wanted to create a piece of lettering that felt both truculent AND comforting, with some silly wordplay thrown in for the LOLs.

11/11 Final design, complete with magic paper effect 
10/11 The details like little sparkles and stipple shading make this design come alive 9/11 A color scheme I tried out before landing on the final one 8/11 This design didn’t feel quite right yet so I made some tiny adjustments to sizing and spacing and it totally changed the feel of the piece. Here it is all cleaned up and vectorized. 7/11 A possible color scheme? I liked it but it didn’t give me the funky retro vibe I was going for 6/11 This cleaned up sketch is looking pretty good! 5/11 Time to draw and fill out the letters! 4/11 I’m pretty happy with this layout, but I’ll continue to make adjustments as I draw the letterforms. 3/11 The second “skeleton” sketch is better but still needs work. I played with a couple different lettering styles before deciding I wanted to dry drawing the whole piece in funky interlocking letterforms. 2/11 The first sketch is always so bad 😂 1/11 An idea is born! For me the first step is always jotting down an idea. If I have an idea for the layout sometimes I’ll also roughly sketch out some simple shapes so I remember where I want to put things.
I think it’s got big “become ungovernable” energy wrapped up in a whimsical retro package.
I hope this month’s design inspires you to stop shrinking yourself for other people’s comfort and/or punch a Nazi in the face.
